Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical treatment on the DRX9000?

Each DRX9000 therapy session is approximately 60 minutes long. Vistis may include massage, treatment on the DRX9000 for healing of the discs, interferential current and ice to reduce swelling or discomfort, gentle chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitative exercises, acupuncture, and exams and re-exams. Our treatment protocol requires that patients come to therapy three to four times a week. We have seen the best results with approximately 25 visits over the course of 7-8 weeks.  However, each patient responds differently and may require more than 25 treatments for a full recovery. Each patient will be provided with an individualized treatment plan based on his/her specific needs.  Ultimately, our goal is to help you reach your maximum health potential.

How soon will I feel better?

Although quite a few patients experience significant improvements in their low back or neck quickly, most patients will follow a course of gradual improvement over time. Most will feel improvement with in 2-4 weeks. Some patients report increased muscle soreness following the first couple of treatments. This is to be expected as the treatment is changing the rut that their spine has been in.  Many patients that start treatment on the DRX have had problems for many years and it is logical to assume it is going to take a few weeks to show improvement.  In our clinic we have had patients respond as early as the first visit or as late at the 19th visit.  This is a package of care and you have to look at the big picture, we are aiming to correct a problem here not just put a band-aid on it.  In general, a course of therapy follows a gradual progression as the body takes time for all the healing changes to occur and the symptoms to resolve.

Are follow-up visits necessary?

Experience and research has shown that the majority of our recovered patients generally remain in remission. However, some individuals whose lifestyle or work environment tends to expose them to higher risk factors or who suffer from severe disc degeneration have found that a maintenance program can be very helpful. Patients in this category tend to develop their own rhythm of maintenance visits that keep them free of pain.  We do recommend occasional chiropractic adjustments to the spine with a Chiropractor to keep the spine fully functioning and PREVENTING and environment where a disc would become symptomatic.

What causes low back and/or neck pain?

Low back/neck  pain can be caused by a number of factors, from injuries, genetics, environment, daily activities, or the effects of aging.

The spinal cord is protected by the vertebrae, which are made of bone. Between each vertebra are soft discs with a ligamentous outer layer. These discs function as shock absorbers to protect the vertebra and the spinal cord, as well as create space between each vertebrae to allow healthy function of the nerves leaving the spinal cord. Many of the problems that cause back and neck pain are the result of herniation and degeneration of this intervertebral disc. Degeneration is a process where wear and tear causes deterioration of the disc and therefore a flattening of the disc leaving less space for the nerves to get through without being irritated. Herniations, or bulging of the disc are protrusions from the disc that press on surrounding nerves, causing pain, weakness, tingling or numbness.

How long does it take to complete DRX 9000 treatment?

Sessions times are approximately 60 minutes. For low back patients the treatment plan is 4 times per week for the first 2 weeks then 3 times per week for 3-4 weeks, then 2 times per week until we are finished.  For neck patients the treatment plan is 3 times per week until we are finished. The number and frequency of sessions may vary depending upon the severity of the condition.

Are there any side effects to the treatment?

Most patients do not experience any side effects. Though, there have been some mild cases of muscle spasm for a short period of time.  Treatment on the DRX9000 and DRX9000C is non-invasive, therefore not causing scar tissue, alterations in range of motion or putting anything artificial into the body.
